About Dr. Katherine Gottlieb, DVM
Originally from Newtown, Connecticut, Dr. Katherine ("Katie") Gottlieb earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Atlantic Veterinary College on Prince Edward Island. Following veterinary school, she completed advanced internships at Fairfield Equine Associates, New Bolton Center, and Iowa State University before completing a Large Animal Surgery Residency and earning a Master's degree at Virginia Tech. During her training, Dr. Gottlieb received recognition for her leadership, surgical skills, and research and has contributed to multiple scientific publications. Before joining South Shore Equine Clinic, she spent a year practicing emergency surgery and critical care in Aiken, South Carolina. Dr. Gottlieb is excited to bring advanced surgical care to horses throughout Eastern Massachusetts and the surrounding region. She is passionate about collaborating with both horse owners and referring veterinarians to provide thoughtful case management, surgical consultation, and exceptional patient care. Professional interests include orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, emergency surgery, surgical consultations, lameness evaluation, advanced imaging interpretation, critical care, and small ruminant emergency surgery. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Gottlieb is a lifelong equestrian and event rider. She enjoys spending time at the beach with her dog, Juniper, relaxing at home with her cat, Squishmallow, and reading.
Introducing Our Expanded Surgical Service
South Shore Equine Clinic & Diagnostic Center is proud to expand its specialty services with the addition of Dr. Katherine Gottlieb. Our growing surgical department allows us to provide advanced surgical consultations, expanded elective surgical procedures, emergency surgical care for established patients, and comprehensive case management while continuing to provide the personalized service our clients have always expected. The addition of a dedicated surgeon also increases appointment availability throughout the practice by allowing Dr. Mark Reilly additional time for ambulatory medicine, consultations, and routine patient care.
Surgical Consultation Services
Dr. Gottlieb is available for surgical consultations, second opinions, lameness evaluations, review of radiographs and diagnostic imaging, treatment planning, surgical case management, and referral consultations. Many horses referred for a surgical consultation ultimately benefit from medical management rather than surgery. Our goal is to provide the best treatment plan for each individual patient.
