 Equine Telemedicine Appointment Types

Telemedicine can be booked for the following conditions for your horse:

  • General Consultations
    • If you need a second opinion on a diagnosis or treatment plan, we offer telemedicine consultations to review medical records and imaging (radiographs, ultrasound, etc.).
    • Ideal for complex cases where additional input from a specialist may be beneficial.
  • Urgent Appointments
    • For non-life-threatening issues, such as minor wounds, limb swelling, or eye concerns, a telemedicine consultation can help determine if immediate treatment is needed or if home care is appropriate.
    • If the condition appears serious, we will recommend an in-person visit as soon as possible.
  • Internal Medicine
    • If you have concerns about your horse’s overall health, ongoing medical conditions, or need advice on management, our veterinarians can assess symptoms, review medical history, and guide you on the next steps.
    • Common topics include nutrition, medication management, metabolic disorders, and minor skin conditions.
  • Lameness Evaluation
    • For an initial assessment of mild to moderate lameness concerns or for follow up progress exams.
    • Our veterinarians can observe your horse in motion via video, discuss history and symptoms, and determine if an in-person evaluation is required.

While telemedicine is a valuable tool, some conditions require hands-on evaluation. We do NOT offer telemedicine for the following situations:

  • Foals – Due to their rapid changes in condition, foals should always be seen in person for any health concerns.
  • The Down Horse – If your horse is unable to stand, this is an emergency requiring immediate veterinary intervention.
  • Respiratory Problems – Any difficulty breathing or signs of respiratory distress must be assessed in person for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

If you are unsure about whether your horse’s condition is suitable for telemedicine, please contact us so we can help determine the best course of action.
